Flagships compared: Canon EOS-1D X Mark II vs Nikon D5

If we look at the canon 1dx mark ii specifications and NIKON D5 features then we can see these  are two flagship products of two leading camera manufacturer. 2016 was the year of Olympics and two major companies launched these two products to attract sports and action photographers.

These two products are toe-to-toe in performance. Still, if you are swinging between these two and also looking for a vlogging camera, from this comparison you can surely reach a decision.

> Nikon D5 is costlier than Mark II, so, here Mark II gets an extra point.

> Comparing the dynamic range, Mark II, and D5 seems to be pretty same. But if checked closely, the Mark II sensor has a wider dynamic range.

If you are going to shoot in a brighter place, then Mark II can be your choice. But in a darker and shadowed place, Nikon D5 can be more useful.

> For photographers, who consider the high ISO raw is more important than dynamic range, can get slightly superior performance from D5. This is pretty negligible and you can hardly spot the difference.

> Mark II AF is a 61-point system. It has the feature of the 360,000-pixel metering sensor. It has 41 cross-type pointers. The center point sensitivity is down to -3EV in single-shot AF mode.

The D5’s AF has 153 points. 99 are cross-type, and 55 can be manually selected. Sensitivity is down to a rated -3EV. The center point can be -4EV. The D5’s metering sensor has 180,000 pixels.

> If we consider the strength and body of these two cameras, Canon Mark II is definitely the robust one. It is built with strength and ability to withstand tough situations.

> For capturing video, Mark II is definitely the better option. It is on the top in the market. Because Mark II captures video in 4K technology.

> Nikon D5 comes in two different types. One that supports compact flash and another that supports the XQD memory card.

But, Canon Mark II supports both these memory cards in a single unit. Any one of these two is compatible with canon.

Pros

  • Canon 1DX Mark ll gives you super quality pictures.
  • If you are taking from RAW, then its performance is incomparable to others.
  • The camera has a high ISO performance.
  • You can easily track in sport or wildlife photography with fast autofocus and tracking features.
  • The burst rate is 14 fps.
  • The buffer capacity is excellent.
  • You can record video in a 4K resolution of 60P.

Cons

  • You can record seamlessly for less than 30 minutes, this is a limitation.
  • The battery will not last long if you record video in 4K for a long time.

Final Verdict

Considering all of the above issues canons 1DX Mark ll can be your first choice. The price is a bit high. But, compared to its features and benefits, it is a good investment. For professional photographers, Canon 1DX Mark ll can be a perfect choice. Even for common people, the need for a good camera is not a luxury anymore.

Learn About: Different Modes of a DSLR Camera

A DSLR camera basically consists of these following parts in it-

1. Lens

4. Image sensor

7. Penta-prism

2. Reflex mirror

5. Focusing screen.

8. Viewfinder or eyepiece.

3. Shutter

6. Condenser lens.

All of these parts are listed according to the order and numbering showed in the image below-

How DSLR Cameras Work

Parts of A DSLR Camera Inside

Here are the detailed steps of taking a photo with the DSLR camera. Follow each step and understand the workings of each step from the image given above.

How Vision Through the Viewfinder Works?

Step 1: Looking through the viewfinder

A predicted demonstration of the photo that is supposed to be clicked is displayed through the eyepiece or viewfinder of the camera. In most of the cameras, it will be the same as the picture that will be captured. So adjusting the object through the view of an eyepiece is important.

Step 2: Falling and Passing through the Reflex Mirror

Once you set the frame you are going to capture, it’s the turn of the mirror to have the light. The light will be fallen upon the reflex mirror and not will pass through it to the part called penta-prism in a vertical direction. The reflex mirror is placed in an angle of 45 degree.

how-Viewfinder-Work

How The Viewfinder works?

Step 3: The function of Pentaprism

Now that light has been redirected to pentaprism from the reflecting mirror, it will receive the light and make the vertical light into horizontal again and send it to the viewfinder. So, the inverted light though the lens becomes inverted again to provide the real image to the eye of the photographer.

Step 4: Swinging of the Reflex Mirror

Then you have to set the vision and frame of the photo through the viewfinder, now its turn to capture the photo. When you do so, the reflex mirror swings upward and block the vertical pathway of light. As a result, light directly can go through the shutter.

Step 5: Light Passes though the Shutter

When the reflecting mirror has gone from the way, the light can directly go through the shutter of the camera and thus, fall into the image sensor. The shutter opening time and shutter speed are predefined but the digital control panel of the camera.

Step 6: Recording the Light at The Image Sensor

How DSLR Cameras Work 1

Like said in the previous paragraph, the opening time of the shutter is predefined by the digital settings of the camera and thought that particle time, light falls on the image sensor. The image sensor is one of the most critical parts that define the quality and resolution of the image. So it’s really important to understand the time required to capture enough light from the vision- technically called shutter speed.

Step 7: Shutter Closed and Reflex Mirror Re-positioned

After the reading of the light is taken properly be the image sensor, the shutter closes and the reflex mirror comes back to its original position.

Step 8: Storing and Processing the Image

How DSLR Cameras Work

The digital image sensors takes the reading of the light regarding the colors, intensity, temperature, contrast etc and forms a negative version of the image. Through the processor of the camera, an entire image is developed instantly and stored in the memory slot of the device.

At the same time, in modern DSLR cameras, the image captured can be instantly shown to the display which is attached to the camera. The entire step is done pretty fast in modern digital SLR cameras. IN fact, in some cameras, this step is done almost 11 times in a second. Finally, the image is taken and that is how DSLR camera works!

We are living in the age of selfies, duckfaces, and vanity shots. Considering that all smartphones come with a camera and most digital cameras are able to take high definition shots, it isn’t that surprising that a lot of people spend a lot of time taking pictures of themselves, the people around them, and of their surroundings.

Still, smartphones and some digital cameras have trouble capturing distant targets. The more you use the zooming features of these gadgets, the more pixilated the picture gets.

If you’re a tourist who blogs about their trip, wouldn’t it be a shame if you give your readers a low-resolution picture? The Eiffel Tower wouldn’t be so grand if it’s all pixelated now, wouldn’t it?

Nikon Coolpix S7000

So what should I do?

The obvious answer would be to get a better camera. You can buy smartphones with HD camera features or smartphones with enhanced zoom features but those phones are extremely expensive.

A more pragmatic option would be to get a digital camera like the one in this nikon s7000 review. Digital cameras are versatile and they are easy to use as well. There are different types of digital cameras out there and most of them were designed to capture high definition shots.

Some of them are even capable of taking long-distance shots by zooming in 10, 20, 40, and 80 times their normal photo taking distance.

Introducing the Nikon Coolpix s7000 camera

The nikon coolpix s7000 camera is one of the newly designed cameras of Nikon. It was released in 2015.  It features a back-illuminated 20 million pixel CMOS sensor to aid you in taking high definition shots.

It is capable of taking high-quality shots at a distance thanks to its 20x optical zoom feature. It also has a 40x with Dynamic Fine Zoom feature that allows the camera to take high definition shot of even far longer distances.

The nikon coolpix is a small portable camera that you can store in your pocket. It comes with its own strap as well. You can easily wear it without suffering neck pains, since it only weighs about 0.36 pounds.

And unlike other digital cameras, the camera is easy to use and easy to understand, since it doesn’t have a lot of complicated buttons and over complicated features.

The nikon s7000 price isn’t very high so anyone with a decent salary can purchase this outstanding camera. It has tons of other features as well and these features will be discussed below.

nikon s7000 camera

Features and benefits

This wouldn’t be much of a nikon s7000 review, if we’re not going to discuss the various benefits and features of the camera.

The price is surprisingly overloaded with features, and you’ll probably be shocked to see that such a small camera is capable of achieving great things.

Its features are:

Fits perfectly in your pocket

Most digital cameras are big and bulky, that’s why they often come with their own bags and straps. Some digital cameras are as small as the nikon s7000, however, they have multiple attachments and protruding parts which makes them hard to pocket. You have the Nikon Coolpix s7000 manual here.

The s7000 on the other hand is a small camera that is also impressively slim. You will find that it easily slips into your pocket. It also doesn’t have protruding buttons so it wouldn’t feel uncomfortable when you are carrying it.

Impressive Zooming Capabilities

This camera comes with a genuine NIKKOR glass lens. This amazing optic lens is what the Nikon brand is known for.  This digital camera is capable of zooming in 20 times the distance thanks to its special optical zoom lens. The lens covers a wide angle and it is great for both landscapes and portrait shots.

Nikon S7000 Zooming Capabilities

If you find that the 20 times optical zoom feature lacking, then you can use the camera’s 40 times dynamic zoom feature. This practically doubles your photo capturing range.

It also goes without saying that the zooming capabilities reduce the amount of pixilation and allows you take pictures of distant targets without losing image quality.

18 Impressive Scene Modes

You can optimize your camera settings to fit the situation. The camera comes with 18 scene modes like night portraits, beach settings, snow mode, and so much more. Just switch to your desired setting and you can have that perfect scenic picture.

But if you’re feeling really lazy or believe that you’re not pro enough to choose a proper scene setting, then have no fear because the “easy auto mode” is here. The easy auto mode setting allows the camera to choose the best setting for you.

Target Finding AF

Have you heard of facial recognition software? Well the target finding AF (Auto Focus) feature is very similar to the facial recognition features found in smartphones.

The technology was developed from large simulation as well analytical ergonomics. This allows the camera to identify human subjects by simply pointing the nikon s7000 coolpix to the intended subject, the camera automatically changes the camera’s settings as it focuses on the target.

As the camera locks down on a target, it calculates and specifies the size and proportion needed to adjust the camera focus. To put it in simpler terms, the camera is identifies human targets and automatically adjust the cameras focus to give you a clearer and more defined photo.

What’s even more amazing is the target finding AF feature not only works when is in the center, but it also functions just as well on off-center subjects. The AF feature isn’t just limited to human targets, you can choose all types of specimens like flowers, food, pets, cars, etc.

nikon coolpix s7000 camera

Easy to Use

It doesn’t have a revolutionary design nor does it have interesting attachments. This may look like a big disadvantage but it is not. This simple and plain design of the nikon coolpix s7000 makes it incredibly easy to use and operate.

The buttons of the camera are very easy to locate. Most of the buttons are pretty self-explanatory, so you’ll get the hang of using the camera eventually. You can find an on/off button in top of the camera as well as a mode dial and shutter release. The mod dial allows you to switch between the various exposures modes that the camera has to offer. The mod dial also helps you to switch directly between useful modes without the use of a menu system, this direct mode changing process saves you a lot of time and effort.

The different modes to choose from are the automatic mode, scene mode, video clip mode, effects modes, and other useful modes.

The front portion of the nikon s7000 near the shutter release you will find the zoom switch. The zoom switch allows you to adjust the lens and move it in and out of focus.  It also has a zoom lever function which allows the camera to automatically zoom into shots which saves you the trouble of adjusting it.

In the back portion of the camera you will see the standard camera option layout. You can use this to area to make fine adjustments and access the finer features of the camera.  You will find a thumb area and a dedicated video record button here.  You’ll also find a playback button, and dedicated Wi-Fi button here. The camera is slightly indented to prevent you from accidentally pressing any buttons in the back portion area.

Underneath the playback buttons you will find a four way navigational pad that allows you to navigate through the camera’s menu. Each keys of the navigational pad is assigned to a specific special function.

The down button allows you to switch the macro focusing, the right button allows you to adjust the exposure compensation, the up button allows you to access the flash option, and the left button allows you to access the timer mode feature of the camera.

  • Have a piece of cloth where you can put all the parts arranged properly, so, you can put them together once again. When placing the lens glass, be sure about the convex and concave shape.
  • There is a spacer ring about the most rear element and inner element. Simply tip the lens on your hand. If you feel that more than one part has come along be alert. Put them in accurate order on your cloth.
  • Be cautious about the inner part, because the inner part normally has a thin layer of coating. It can get damaged with simple impact and leave a scratch on it. So, handle it gently.

Let’s Start Cleaning

Now it’s time to start cleaning the fungus. No matter where the fungus has formed, now you have dismantled the lens, opened it wide, you can clean it properly. One thing you need to remember that, there is a black coating on the edge of the glass. It is there to reduce internal reflection. Sometimes it comes off when cleaning the fungus. It is advised to take it off as much as possible or completely and recoat it.

Make the Solution

  • To start making the solution, it is better to wear all safety equipment. Wear the safety glasses and hand gloves. Use a syringe to make sure all components have required quantity.
  • Our solution has hydrogen peroxide and ammonia. Try to work in a well-ventilated place. Ammonia fume can be harmful. Take equal amount of both components and mix them together.
  • Let’s say here we will make a 10 ml solution, so, take hydrogen peroxide and ammonia 5 ml each. Now stir them properly so that they mix with each other.
  • Put a disposable lens wipe or something else at the bottom to make sure elements you are going to soak in the solution is not scratched by the dish.

Remove the Fungus

  • Now soak the element on which fungus has formed into the solution. Keep it for a couple of minutes. You will see that some bubbles are clearing off the fungus from the surface. Sometimes, it may take few more minutes to remove the fungus.
  • Now take the element to the sink. Wash it with free flow of water, don’t rub it. Rubbing may leave a scratch on the element. Do it properly to rinse off the solution.
  • Now use the lens power to blow the water droplets away.
  • Finally, use the microfiber to give a final touch.
  • After you have completed the cleaning process, cover it with another clean microfiber to protect from dust.

Reassemble All Parts

Now, you have cleared fungus from your lens, you need to put it back in one piece. You have to follow your notes and serial you kept them on the cloth. The way you have dismantled the lens from the camera and take it apart, the same way, backward, now you will put it together.

Last Few Words

A camera is a fancy equipment. You need to take care of it properly. A simple disturbance on the lens can have a major impact on your captured memories. Fungus formation is a very simple issue, but you can’t ignore it. You should keep your gadgets always in an airtight container or use some silica gel pack on your camera bag. This silica gel will absorb the moisture. Keep them in a dry, cool place. And if ever you face the problem, just follow the above-mentioned steps.

Intermediate Landscape Photography Tips

Photography 202: Intermediate Landscape Photography Tips

For landscape photography, the most important part is choosing the object & location. And according to your object, location and time, all your settings and tips vary. And today, we are going to crack all the hidden tips and the strategies for landscape photography.

But before jumping to the main content, you need to be prepared for intermediate tips. For absolute beginners, things may seem little difficult. In that case, you can read our previous article Landscape Photography Tips 101 Landscape Photography Tips 101 & then start reading this one.

intermediate landscape photography tips

If you keep your eyes normally into the photo, you may not see something special. But if you look into the photo by your heart, you’ll see blue skies, white clouds, green fields and a long lonely road.

The frame is very big and if you search the meaning of the photo you’ve many options to think about. It means the photographers thought the same thing during the environment selection. So, you need to think and compose your own frame also.

Here is another image for you.

Landscape Photography Tips 2

What does this image show?

A very usual view of dusk which you can find near any lake area. But the photographer who’ve taken this shot did an awesome composition. A reddish sky, calm lake & a calm town near it.

The most important part of this photo is the expanding wave which is created by a drop of something from the outside of the frame. And look, nothing is there to drop into the lake. It means, the photographer himself drop something into the lake and then took the shot immediately. It means this part of the frame is a setup and the photographer made it natural by his click.

So, if you are a keen photo enthusiast, you need to compose your own object. And if you can do this properly, the primary and probably the most important task will be done.

Camera Setting Tips

The exposure setting, which means the quality balance among aperture, ISO and shutter speed can turn your photo into a message. You are totally free to set your own camera setting. But in terms of our experiences, we compiled the following camera settings for you:

Landscape Photography Tips 3

Aperture: Since a successful landscape photograph needs a wide angle view, so you need to change the f-stop value depends on your composition. If you read different blogs on photography, you may become confused. And that’s why to leave reading thousands of tips and remember this simple rule:

“You need to decrease the value of your f-stop if you completely focus on your primary object keeping the background unfocused and if you want to maintain a clear-cut relation between foreground and background, increase the f-stop value even up to f/22.

Landscape Photography Tips 4

If you are still confused, you can check the photos above. In the first photo, f-stop value is 7.1 which focuses the middle hill in the photo, whereas in second photo f-stop value is 14 which made every object clear.

ISO: I always recommend not to take higher value of ISO because it reduces the photo quality. And to balance low ISO you can set higher shutter speed so that you can take lights for more time than taking more lights in short time.

For daylight landscape, the ISO value should be maximum 100. But for night time photography, you can increase the value up to 400. But if you do so, apparently the smoothness of your photos will decrease.

For the photos above the first image, ISO is only 100 and the photo looks smoother. On the other hand, the ISO value of the second image is 400 which made it warmer and a little noise covers the whole image. But if you used ISO 100 for the second image, then the photos would look smoother.

And if the second image becomes smoother, the sunny ambiance will be faded. As a result, the image would lose its main characteristics. So always remember that to avoid noises in your photograph, reducing ISO value is not always the solution.

Shutter Speed: According to our experience, in maximum cases, shutter speed for landscape photography is completely optional. Because you can create your own composition and depend on your composition you can choose your own shutter speed.

And if you want to know the shutter speed value of the above photos, then you’ll see they’ve 1/160s & 1/320s shutter speed which is very lower. The reason is both of the photos was taken in sharp sunlight and only a few lights were more than enough to satisfy the camera sensor.

But for low light photography, you should consider the shutter speed. But still, if you don’t need to bother a lot because for landscape snaps this will not be a big deal for you.

Lens Selection Tips

A prime lens will not help you a lot in case of landscape photography. And if you are focused on the landscape, you need to study more about a zoom lens and telephoto zoom lens.

Zoom Lens: Using these lenses, you can control the focal length of the picture. But in the normal zoom lens, these range varies within a limited value. The most common zoom lenses in the market are 18-55mm, 18-135mm etc. For shorter distance landscape, 18-55mm is enough, but for longer 18-135mm is fine. But try to avoid 18-200mm.

Because, it may give you longer focal length, but to maintain 18mm to 200mm coverage its internal mirrors need extra layers which reduce the color quality which is very necessary for landscape sceneries. For example, if the following photo was taken by only zoom lens you’ll get this awesome color grading.

Landscape Photography Tips 5

Tele Zoom Lens: For long distance shots, telephoto zoom lenses are a gem. For extra high-quality colors and easier maintenance, we always prefer tele zooms. For the above picture, all elements from near and far look clear and the color grading looks awesome.

This is because the photo it was taken using a tele lens and set the focal length to 150mm. So, less distortion happened and quality became intact.

Accessories Setup Tips:

As you already passed the beginner stage, you would already know the necessary accessories for landscape photography. But for landscape following tips will always help you:

– Use 3-meter tripod which will help you to capture more than your height level.

–  Try to use remote if you want the flawless level of photography.

– The stabilizer is gradually becoming very important for landscape time-lapse photography.

–  For dusty places, don’t forget to use a lens filter.

– For swamp or rainy areas waterproof covers are mandatory.

Photo Capturing Tips

For a proper understanding of capturing photos look at the island’s photo below. The camera setting for the photo is 10mm focal length with 3.5 aperture value, 1/2000s shutter speed, and 200 ISO. The time was at the end of the afternoon and a mini tripod was used to keep the low-level steadiness.

Landscape Photography Tips 6

The first thing is the distance between you and the object. It is only 10mm because you are focusing from the shore to the cloud far from the horizon. If you took that photo using aperture 10 then you would be distracted from that sun ray and you would get more objects in your eye frame.

Again, if you took ISO 500 instead of ISO 200 the softness of your photo would vanish. So, the eye soothing effect of the afternoon skype would get a noon effect. And if you gave your shutter 1/50s to read the whole ambiance you couldn’t get that sun ray so clear because the extra lights will burn that narrow stream.

And if you want to take the same picture in the same location but in morning, then it’s better for you to change your shutter speed to 1/1000s and ISO to 300. It’ll collect lights for more time and the composition will be warmer which is similar to morning climate.

But for night time, shutter speed should be higher even up to several seconds to collect the lights from the far cloud. You can check my Night Time Photography Tips 202 for more about night photography.

Final Words

So, in a nutshell, we can say, after choosing your objects, setting your camera & accessories you need to decide your move during the capture. Otherwise, all your efforts will be ruined. And during the capture, don’t hurry because you may lose awesome frames for your hurry.

Again, don’t distract from the object because sometimes a moment of distraction can take you away from a life-changing shot. Especially if you read my wildlife photography tips, you’ll see how important the concentration in photography is. Till Then, Good Bye.

Travel Photography Tips

Photography 102: Travel Photography Tips for Beginners

When we were beginners in travel photography, initially we used to think we don’t need any travel photography tips for beginners because we know enough. And then we went under a practical ambiance. 3 of our friends including me went to visit an island for 3 days. We took our cameras, default lenses, batteries & 16 GB memory cards each.

Travel Photography Tips

After reaching the island we started taking multiple snaps & videos. As a result after day 1, our memory cards were totally full. Then we started deleting many shots & made some spaces for the next 2 days. On day 2 when we were visiting a site, my battery charge became zero. Then the whole day I hung my almost dead camera on my neck.

After returning from that tour we all understood every beginner should research some tips for travel photography. These tips must include a good packing list & things to be considered on your trip. And finally, we listed the following photography tips for every beginner.

travel photography tips

Choose Right Backpack

Choose a travel backpack that has individual cores to keep at least one camera body, two lenses & other accessories like tripod, flash, etc. inside it. In addition, check whether there is an individual core for keeping at least one 13.3” laptop or not. A variety of travel backpacks are available in the market. Many of them are specially designed for travel photographers.

But before purchasing a backpack for your go for lighter backpacks. Its true heavy backpacks are more durable, but during your overseas trip, they’ll be embarrassing. We all know airplanes have luggage weight limits & heavier bags may tend your luggage weight out of limit. So, avoid the weight of your backpack as much as you can.

Extra Lens Travel Photography

Keep Extra Lens

In the case of carrying lenses, there are lots of opinions among photographers. Some say as traveling is an outside job, carrying more than 1 lens can make your movement slower. So depends on your destination, choose & carry one lens which will be perfect for that location.

But practically every travel destination has varieties of sceneries and carrying only a single lens can’t fulfill all your criteria. So, our suggestion will be taking 2 lenses where one is a prime lens. For zoom lenses, we’ll recommend 18-135 mm & for a prime lens, any basic lens will be perfect.

If you are traveling to a forest, in that case you can do  take photo of animal lives, as well. In that case lens with big zoom should be chosen instead of prime lens.

extra battery travel photography

Carry Backup Battery

Since you’ve to stay on the road for a long time, the chance of getting electricity is not always possible. And you never know when & how you’ll get a gorgeous view or object for your travel photography. So, always keep an extra battery in your purse so that you need not face scarcity of charge. And of course, don’t forget to check the charge status of every battery.

Another thing you should remember also. If you’ve 2 batteries & you returned your hotel/resort before discharging one battery. Then the charge this battery again & the next day use another battery which was charged one day ago. It is because every battery contains some leakage current & keeps 2-3 days can discharge a notable amount of charge. So, use all batteries regularly & charge them regularly.

Select Appropriate Memory Card

The common memory cards are now 16 GB or 32 GB. Most of the beginners think this is the only thing to consider. And here comes some tips from practical photographers. There are 2 factors 2 be considered.

One is to use two 16 GB memory cards instead of one 32 GB memory card. I know it’ll be a little expensive as there is no great price gap between 16 GB & 32 GB memory cards. But think about the data. This is a common phenomenon where memory cards get scratched, infected by virus & formatted. If you use a 32 GB memory card & somehow it loses data, then all your hard work will go to hell. So, using different cards will reduce this risk.

Another factor is speed. For example, in sports photography when you’ve to capture speedy objects not only the memory is helpful, but also the card should enough fast to record the total composition just in time. And in the case of travel photography, you may take the snap of sunset, billows, people surfing on sea waves or flying birds etc. In those cases, a speedy memory card is also necessary because of the same reason.

Tripod Travel Photography

Other Accessories

A tripod, a camera selfie stick, flash, lens filter, small portable camera bag etc. are most recommended photography accessories for your travel. In addition, if your trip duration is more than 3 days, then don’t forget to take your laptop also. Because, extra memories will not be enough sufficient to keep all memories. So, if you’ve a laptop you can transfer your data regularly.

Every photographer should maintain a quality Instagram profile. So take some snaps on your mobile also & upload them to Instagram. So, carry a minimum 10mh power bank so that you can be connected to your mobile all the time. For beach traveling maintain a waterproof camera bag & also a waterproof cover for underwater photos.

Finally, you must remember that a photographer is not only a photo taker. He is a composer, an artist. So in your journey to the world, don’t confined yourself only to the places & scenery.

Rather try to be mixed with local people, culture & arts. Then compose your own scenery, own landscape photos from the life of local people. This is not a tip, rather this should be the destination of a travel photographer. This is such a destination that can make a travel photographer to a travel story teller. Turn a photo into a story. Bon Voyage.

Toddlers photography idea for 2024

Photographing toddlers is not very easy. How do you argue a small person who is unpredictable, yet not able to speak using words we use to understand, and who is completely unfamiliar with any possible danger and physical restriction?

I am going to give you some of my favorite ideas for toddler photography that will help you get great photos of them in their natural state – equal parts cuteness and chaos.

Toddlers come with unique challenges

Children are always both good photogenic and notoriously difficult to photograph. During a photo shoot pose, they usually sometimes can be shy or behave unlikely, making the portraits seem ‘set up’ or inauthentic, or at least very hard to shoot.

That’s why most families choose to have a lifestyle photoshoot instead, aiming for frank rather than posed shots. Getting a great candid portrait of a child can be demanding, but if you succeed, that photo may be cherished for years. To increase your likelihood of nailing that shot, here is a helpful idea for your next photo shoot with kids.

Toddlers Photographing Ideas.

Ask Parents to bring snacks

Ask your parents to bring snacks and drinks that wash up easily. Raisins or apple slices, Cheerios, water, or apple juice is much easier to disguise than the stains from blue ring pops, raspberries, cheesy crackers, or grape Kool-Aid.

Ask parents to bring baby wipes

Ask the parents to bring baby wipes (I usually keep a stash with me, too, just in case!) and a change of clothes/underpants.

Make the shoot fun and playful.

We’re redoing this idea from the way of life photography post because it’s so essential, perhaps the most essential of all. You want the kids to have fun because this is the only way they’ll be relaxed and more likely to give you their best real smiles. As another bonus, the parents will also be happier, as you’re creating a positive recollection for their kids.

children-model-photography

How to produce a photoshoot fun will largely depend on the kids’ ages and personalities. When it is possible, allow kids to choose props, a situation, or an activity for the shoot. Getting them involved like this can make the shoot more beneficial and fun for them.

Go outside.

Natural behavior is not a button you can switch on or off with your children. If you ask your Kid to smile or go to play, they may end up just hanging by their parents’ side, blank-faced.

Instead of relying on words and compliance, be thoughtful about the circumstances you choose for the photo-shoot. For many kids, a fun outside position will naturally draw out the expressions and behavior you’re trying to photograph. woodland, parks, and coastline are all excellent choices. Just by leaving your studio, you’ll raise your chances of getting a magnificent un posed picture – and the background will be very beautiful.

Use the child’s favorite toys.

If going outside is not possible, you’ll need to depend on kid toys to make a child feel at ease. While you can bring a pack of toys, it’s also an excellent idea to ask the parents to bring the kid’s favorite toys. You can only guess what a Kid might like, whereas parents know every preference in detail. Even if the toys are unattractive or hard to photograph, they can be a source of comfort for the kid, making them worth having around just in case.

Bring classic toys.

While the family should bring any toys they are willing, your own toy choices should be restricted to the most eye-catching. After all, the child’s toys will have the impression and regret attached to them, whereas the toys in your studio are eventually just props.

When creating your toy pack, make sure to include prototypes like pinwheels, bubbles, and magnifying glasses. These toys are both accurately fun and incredibly photogenic.

Get out of the way.

Nothing suffocates cheerful like a hovering adult. If you want a reserved Kid to relax, always avoid standing too close to him; Don’t tell the child what to do. If you want to try a new toy, give it to one of the parents to introduce instead. By removing yourself from a scene like this, you’ll have a higher chance of seeing and capturing natural behavior.

If the Kid is not acting how you are expecting or hoping, take it as a chance to uncover their personality. Numerous photographers want to see exuberant joy and happiness, but some children are more thoughtful and reserved, even while playing. They may not smile at the camera, but they will still show other emotions that are worth photographing.

Prepare for a lot of movement

If the Kid you are photographing ends up playing quietly, you’ve lost nothing by preparing for more movement. However, if you’re expecting the Kid will stay still… Don’t depend on it. Approach the shoot like a sports game. There may be indolent moments, but the considerable emotions and best picture shots may be right in the center of the action.

Focus on their hands, feet, and body movements.

If you spend the whole shoot trying to catch the child’s facial expressions, you might miss out on a cluster of other great shots. apart from, attract on the face alone can sometimes be frustrating if the Kid keeps looking away. Instead of getting frustrated, take a step back and look at the entire scene. You might see the chance for a beautiful picture with just the child’s feet or hands.

Follow the child’s lead.

If you’re used to being in charge of a picture shoot, taking a back step position might be unnerving for you at first. But recall that you’re not trying to control the child’s conduct and personality; you’re trying to capture it authentically in a photo.

In other words, during a children model photography session, you are a witness, not the child boss. If guidance is mandatory, it should be subtle and playful rather than commanding. Unless they’re about to harm something valuable like your camera gear, remain relaxed and open about what’s possible. You might find that their innovation and ingenuity are more stimulating than anything you could have imagined yourself.

Birth Photography Tips for 2024

When it comes to being a parent, every memory of their child is precious. The most important moment for them is undoubtedly the instance when their baby is born. And they want this memory to be captured as a photograph so that it can always bring a smile to their face. This is why they intend to hire a photographer who’ll do birth photography for them.

Birth Photography Tips and Defination?

What is birth photography?

In photography, new genres always keep emerging out of nowhere. There was a time when people couldn’t enter the room where the baby delivery used to take place. But, now most of the hospitals allow a photographer to enter the room and take photographs of the moment. And this type of photography is known to be birth photography. Nowadays parents hire a contracted birth photographer to take photos of their child’s delivery and the situations related to giving birth.

You also must be a photographer who wants to start giving this type of photography service. Maybe, you don’t know where to start from. Or you can also be a pro thinking about getting new ideas for your next shoot.

It really doesn’t matter if you’re a pro or a newbie. It also doesn’t matter if you are a photographer or not. Whatever you’re searching for is all right here in these following birth photography tips. I assure you these tips are just what you need to take some beautiful birth photos without any hassle.

What gears for birth photography should you pack?

Now you need to keep one thing in mind that not all the gears are necessary to take birth photos. There are different types of gear that you will need to pack beforehand. Followings are those –

Camera – Take a camera that can work great on low light and doesn’t produce grainy images on higher ISO. If possible use a camera that has dual card slots as you will need an extra card for storage.

Lens – Carry lenses that are small like a 55mm lens. It should cover a wider angle and taking wide shots gets easier. It should also have a lower f-stop number so that the depth of field will be perfect.

Memory card – There is no guarantee how many photos you make have to take as birth photography is a long process. So you should keep extra memory cards in case you need them. Keeping your card ready for the shoot will help you a lot trust me.

Flash – As the delivery room might not have that much natural light you may have to use artificial light like flash.

Flash diffuser – The light from the flash is too harsh. To keep the light soft a diffuser will be needed. So keep a diffuser in the packing.

Discussion on Birth Photography Tips

Keep in touch

There is no certain time for the delivery to happen. So you must stay ready for it. This is why stay connected with the yet-to-be parents. Tell them to call you whenever the mother feels the water is about to break. You should call them everyday of the week before the delivery date. This way you won’t miss out on the session.

Consult with the Doctor

Not every doctor will give you permission to take photographs inside the delivery room. You need to talk to the hospital or the doctor in charge and ask for permission. Question them about the stuff you can do inside the delivery room and stuffs that you cannot do. Trust me 99% of the doctors won’t have any problem with you taking photos of the delivery process unless you get in their way.

Capture photos of the delivery room

The delivery room is the place which the mother of the newborn baby will always try to remember all her life. So you can help her by taking some photos of that room. Take some wide shots of the room and take photos of the hospital too. Take a photo of the room number and things inside the room as well.

Capture details of the signs and environment

There are few details of the delivery room that the parents would want to be kept as memories. Like the sign which says “Turn left for Delivery Room”. Or the ECG machine that keeps showing the heart rate while delivery. Take photos of such details of the whole situation and objects relating to the delivery process.

Use flash if allowed to

Flash has a very harsh light. It is harmful for the newborn to face such harsh light right after the delivery. Even the doctors might feel disturbed because of it. So before using a flash to take photos make sure the doctor allows you to use it during the operation.

Be ready to shoot low light

The delivery room has less ambient light. The doctors use overhead lights to do this operation and this light falls on the mother giving birth. This is why the room has low light. To take photos in such a place you will have to use a low F-stop value which means a lower aperture. A lower aperture will help you to take brighter images. The aperture value should be something between 1/2 to 1/4 f stops or even wider. It will let more light enter the camera thus giving you a brighter and sharper image.

Focus on the newborn

Keep a Checklist of shots

You won’t get time to think about what shots to take while the delivery process. This is why you should keep a checklist planned for the shots you want to take beforehand. There can be different types of shots like the mother’s expressions while the delivery. The crowning shot of the baby. Some action shots of the doctors. And maybe some hand-holding shots of the baby’s parents. Any of these amazing shots can be the perfect shot that you are looking for. A birth photographer I knew followed this tip of keeping a checklist and trust me he took an award-winning shot that mesmerized everyone.

Take Post delivery photos

Take some post-delivery photos to add more stories to your photos. There can be different post-delivery photos like –

  • The mother holding baby for the first time
  • Father holding baby for the first time
  • Baby being weighed on a small weighing machine
  • Baby being wrapped up in a towel
  • Breastfeeding for the first time.
  • Relatives holding baby
  • The baby’s first smile or cry

Conclusion

One of the most fascinating types of photography that you will love is this birth photography. You can connect with the feelings of the parents having their first baby. And can help them to keep those moments as memories intact in a photograph. This genre of photography is truly wonderful and you can make it more amazing just by following the tips I talked about above. So I hope you will try them for sure. Have fun!

For beginners getting used to sports, photography seems a little tough because you have to capture a moving object from a far distance. And gathering the tips of sports photography for beginners was a great challenge for us. But finally, for our readers, we’ve made it. Since it’s a little different than normal beginner photography, so we’ve divided it into two parts: Pre Setup Tips & Action Tips. Now let’s go to the detailed discussion.

sports photography tips

3 Pre Setup Tips for Sports Photographers

Sports photography is a little different than other photography. That’s why our recommendation will follow the pre-setup tips first & then start your action.

Sports Photography Tips

Know Your Sports

As you’ve to take speedy photos from a distance & the distance of your object will change continuously, it is better choosing a lens of 200+ focal length. Otherwise, a large number of photos will be cluttered or partially damaged. Wide Angle cameras are recommended with a large sensor. For cricket, golf, or other slow games camera with crop zooms are okay, but still, we’ll suggest you purchase a good camera.

And don’t think that you need a big budget for purchasing a camera. There are lots of cameras in the market, which are very reasonable for a beginner. Besides, there are also many wide-angle lenses cheap. Just read the reviews of different cameras & lens and then compile your own hardware setting.

Hardware Setting

The first & most important tips for you are to study sports on those you are going to work on. For cricket, you’ve to prepare in one style & for football you’ve to prepare in another style. For swimming, you need some waterproof gears also. So, before starting your sports photography career prepare yourself not only with gears but also learn the rules of the game.

Camera Setting

If you’ve to work indoor then learn more about night photo-shoot as due to the lack of light or artificial light of the indoor stadium, more or less the shutter speed & ISO setting remains also the same in both cases. But for total exposure, you need to be dependent on your object behavior. Also, the ambiance is a big factor. In terms of distance set your zoom.

3 Sports Photography Tips for Direct Action

So now you’ve studied your sports, chose an appropriate camera for that sports & tuned its setting for a maximum quality photo. Now let’s dive into the tips for direct action.

Choose Your Vantage Point

Usually shooting from the same level help you to focus & present player’s reaction, impression & actions better than other position. As a result, ta vantage point should be a position from where you can keep yourself always straight to the players.

But in the case of sports photography all, we know the key object which means the player stays in continuous movement. As a result, theoretically finding a fixed vantage point is almost impossible.

sports photography tips for beginners

But practically you can set yourself always for a fixed important position. For example, imagine you are shooting a soccer match. So, of course, the most important parts that people will want to see how goals are done & how their favorite player played.

These things can help you to make your own vantage point. If you like Messi or Ronaldo, then take your position between near their position & the goal post. As a result, you can take the most important part of the whole match.

Use Fast Auto Focus & Burst Mode

The running objects will be moving & fast. And you’ve to be smarter & faster in caching them through your lens. Technically it means setting up a fast autofocus so that your focus point can switch faster than your object automatically.

sports photography

But in spite of switching your focus, getting an appropriate snap is a little harder. And that’s why to open your burst mode & take continuous photos 5-10 times consecutively. As a result, if you miss a specific moment, there will be another moment to give backup.

Along with these settings keep your shutter speed & ISO value high. And don’t forget to shoot from a low angle such as your knees or monopod. Don’t jerk your hand & focus on your target. If Possible, Take Videos

It may sound a little weird. But there are lots of photographers who actually take videos of fast-moving objects, then split it into scenes & finally they edit the best scene from the split video. But there are also some strategies to think. For example, if you start taking videos of the whole match then you need more memories. To make it more reasonable first pick your best moment to capture and then record it for 1-2 minutes max. After that look for another exclusive moment & do the same. But if you can predict any future moment, then switch your video mode into burst mode instantly and wait to take 3-4 image shots.

Finally, gather all your snaps & videos, compose your story & edit one after one very carefully. Don’t break the serial, don’t publish any photo before editing all your images. This is a tip not only for sports photos but also for every type of your taken photos.
